Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Medical Laboratory Technicians to join the Haematology team.
Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.
Services are provided through our six main campuses:
Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.
The Role:
An opportunity exists for a Medical Laboratory Technician with Blood Bank and Haematology experience at Northern Health. The successful applicant must have knowledge and experience in a broad range of techniques and instrumentation used within a diagnostic pathology laboratory.
In addition, attention to detail is required when receipting, handling and processing specimens in particularly the identification and prioritisation of those that are urgent. The appointee must demonstrate organisational skills when managing inventory to ensure continuity of service and minimal wastage.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Certificate or Associate Diploma of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory), Certificate, Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Laboratory Technology or Laboratory Operations, Bachelor degree in Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent
- Experience in a diagnostic pathology laboratory, preferably in Blood Transfusion and Haematology departments
- Experience in participating in rotating rosters including weekday, evening, weekend and public holiday shifts
- Strong commitment to a high quality of care and continuous professional development
- Understanding and compliance with Quality Management Systems
- Ability to work as part of a diverse team and independently with a proven ability to plan and prioritise work effectively
- High level of interpersonal, organisational and communication skills with a well-developed capacity to adapt to continues change and liaise effectively with staff
